DESCRIPTION

With week two coming to a close, we can safely say it's been a fantastic few days on site. The weather has been glorious, although perhaps a little too warm at times, and the bright sunshine hasn't always made archaeological work any easier. Harsh light can make subtle changes in soil colour and texture much harder to spot, but despite the heat, the team has continued to carefully investigate the trenches, searching for the clues that will help us piece together this archaeological puzzle.

One particularly pleasing discovery came on the morning of day ten: this lovely fragment of partially worked and polished Lewisian gneiss. Finds like this may be small, but each one adds another piece to the story we're uncovering.

Just before we wrapped up for the week, a new intriguing feature started to reveal itself in the centre of the trench. We'll be back on Monday, joined once again by Jackie and John, to continue investigating what lies beneath.
