Greetings, Adventurers.
You already know the shield wall. Today, Part II of The Adventurer release brings pure offensive power. History called them the Pelekyphoroi ("the axe-bearers"), the shock force capable of splitting Frankish armor and Arab mail in a single blow.
Here are the Emperor's executioners, their most illustrious hero, and the road they traveled.
⚔️ THE ADVENTURER – THE AXE BEARERS & BOLLI BOLLASON
"When arrows are spent and spears are shattered, the Emperor unleashes the axe-bearers. And then, the silence is filled with thunder."
BOLLI BOLLASON The hero of the Sagas.
Based on the historical figure from the Laxdæla saga, Bolli represents the Varangian who rose to the highest ranks of the Byzantine court.
The miniature depicts him as a high-ranking officer, helmet under his arm, carrying a shield emblazoned with the Chi-Rho (Christogram), symbol of his status in the palace guard.
VARANGIAN GUARD WITH AXES (MAIL ARMOUR) The brutality of the North.
These warriors wear traditional heavy chainmail and wield the terrifying Dane Axes.
Their dynamic poses reflect the moment of impact, designed to break enemy lines through sheer brute force.
VARANGIAN GUARD WITH AXES (LAMINAR ARMOUR) The armored Imperial elite.
This second unit trades mail for the Klivanion (lamellar armor), the most expensive equipment in the armories of Constantinople.
They combine the eastern aesthetic of overlapping plates with the lethality of the two-handed axe, representing the personal guard in its full splendor.
SCENERY: ROAD CRUX
A Roadside Shrine, inspired by the markers that lined the long marches toward Miklagard. A perfect piece to add historical atmosphere to your tables.
