When we play Minyo (folk song), the tuning often changes depending on the song — Honchoshi, Niagari, Sansagari… we switch between a few different tunings.
But here’s something helpful to know:Some songs that are “supposed” to be played in Honchoshi can actually be played in Niagari with no problem.
This becomes super useful when you’re putting together a medley.Keeping all the songs in the same tuning makes everything so much smoother.

We learned this song in Honchoshi on Learn Shamisen, but it also works perfectly in Niagari.
To play it in Niagari, all you need to do is swap one thing:The phrase you normally play Tsubo 4 on the 2nd string in Honchoshi becomes Tsubo 3 on the 2nd string in Niagari.
That's it!! Just that one shift.
If you can already play Hanagasa Ondo in Honchoshi, try giving it a go in Niagari as your next step. It really expands your options for medleys.

調弦を二上りにして弾くには…本調子のときに 「2の糸の4」 で弾いていたところを 「2の糸の3」 に変えるだけ。
このワンポイントさえ意識すれば、花笠音頭は問題なく演奏できます💡
