DESCRIPTION

How else did you think Automata were created?

Kirito noticed the headset because it did not belong.

That alone was enough to make him stop on his way home.

It lay half-hidden beside the low wall near the school gate, tucked into the shadow of a hedge as though somebody had set it there for a moment and simply forgotten to come back. In another neighborhood maybe he would have ignored it. In this one, in this era, abandoned FullDive hardware was not exactly something you saw every day.

He crouched, brushed a few leaves off the casing, and frowned.

It definitely was not an AmuSphere.

It was sleeker than one, the outer shell built from a dark matte material that felt almost silky under his fingers. The profile was narrower too, with fewer obvious seams and none of the branding he expected. No manufacturer mark. No serial number where it should have been. No scratches, either. The thing looked less like something dropped by accident and more like something that had just quietly appeared.

"That’s not ominous at all," he muttered.

He picked it up, turned it over in his hands, and pressed the side. To his surprise, a thin line of white light ran around the edge, waking with a soft chime.

Still charged.

Kirito glanced around the mostly empty street one more time. No one called out that they had lost something. No one came running. He was already curious enough that he knew exactly what would happen next.

He took it home.

By the time he reached his room, he had gone through the usual possibilities. Prototype hardware. A black-market custom rig. Some niche overseas release. Maybe a prank. Maybe an old shell somebody had rebuilt by hand. It looked too refined to be amateur work, though. Too polished. Too deliberate.

He set it on his desk, sat down, and gave it another careful look.

His phone buzzed beside him.

Asuna.

Kirito picked up. "Hey."

"You sound distracted," she said immediately.

"Found something weird on the way back."

"Weird how?"

He turned the headset toward the light. "A FullDive machine I don’t recognize. No label. No visible manufacturer. Still working."

There was a pause, then a sigh that carried equal parts concern and curiosity. "And you brought it home, didn’t you?"

"Maybe."

"Kirito."

"It was lying next to the school like some kind of side quest reward. What was I supposed to do? Leave it there?"

"Yes?"

He grinned despite himself. "Too late now."

He heard the faint, fond exhale on the other end. "At least tell me you’re being careful."

"I’m looking it over first. If it does anything strange, I’ll stop."

"That is exactly the sort of thing somebody says right before something strange happens."

"Probably."

"Call me if it turns out to be dangerous. Or cursed. Or both."

"If it’s cursed, I’m blaming you for jinxing it."

"Naturally." Her tone softened. "Let me know if it works."

"Will do."

He ended the call and set the phone down again.

Then, after one last moment of hesitation that was not really hesitation at all, he put the headset on.

The fit was perfect.

That was the first thing that bothered him.

Most headsets needed a small adjustment the first time. A little shift at the temples, a slight tug at the back. This one settled over his head as if it had been made to his measurements beforehand, snug without pressure, secure without weight. The interior pads touched his skin with a faint coolness, and a startup tone sounded right beside his ears.

A black screen lit with white text.

WELCOME

The lettering disappeared almost immediately, replaced by a simple menu with a single installed program.

AUTOMATA CREATOR

No company logo. No version number. No online connection prompt.

"That’s subtle," Kirito murmured, and selected it.

The menu vanished.

For a second there was only darkness. Then the darkness resolved into a blank white room so clean and featureless it looked less like a game space and more like the inside of an unfinished thought. A single line of text hovered in front of him.

INITIALIZING PLAYER CALIBRATION

Before he could do more than blink at it, a ring of pale light swept up from his feet to his head.

Kirito reflexively raised a hand. The scan passed through him with a prickling chill, like standing too close to static. Then it happened again. And again, each pass slightly slower and more thorough.

"Okay," he said to the empty room. "So it has a body scan like the original SAO. Now you got me even more curious"

The message changed.

CALIBRATION COMPLETE

GENERATING OPTIMAL COMPATIBLE FRAME

He tilted his head. "Oho?"

The white room darkened at the edges, and then a human silhouette appeared a few steps ahead. It began as a wireframe, lines sketching themselves from the feet upward, and then rapidly filled in with shape and detail.

Kirito stared.

The model the system built was female.

Not just vaguely feminine, either. Unmistakably, deliberately female.

She stood at about his height, maybe a little taller from the posture alone, with a sleek, powerful body built on athletic lines that curved more dramatically the farther up the construction went. Long legs. Broad, flared hips. A narrow waist. A full chest that the program seemed almost indulgent in rendering. Her arms were shapely rather than bulky, elegant and toned, and there was something odd under the smooth surface of her skin, a suggestion of structure too seamless to be organic.

Her face finished loading last.

That gave him an unpleasant little jolt, because it was beautiful in a way that felt measured rather than natural, every feature arranged with almost mathematical care. Dark hair. Fine jawline. Soft mouth. Large eyes framed by lashes just a little too perfect. It was not his face, not really, but he could see the logic of how the program had arrived there from him.

It was like looking at an answer sheet for a question he had never agreed to ask.

New text opened beneath the model.

RECOMMENDED PLAYER FRAME GENERATED

COMPATIBILITY RATING: 98.7%

USE RECOMMENDED FRAME?

Two options appeared.

ACCEPT

CUSTOMIZE YOUR OWN ANDROID

Kirito stared at the floating prompt. Then back at the woman.

"Huh," he said eloquently.

He walked a slow circle around the projection. The model turned as he moved, letting him examine it from every angle. From the side he could see the curve of the chest more clearly, the taper of the stomach, the round lift of the hips and rear. The whole body looked balanced for motion—like something designed to move fast, hit hard, and still catch the eye while doing it.

An avatar generator with a strong opinion, apparently.

"You know, I feel a little judged," he said.

The model said nothing. Of course.

He considered opening the customization menu. Normally he would have. At the very least he would have wanted to know what sort of game started by deciding this much for the player. But he had not booted up some suspicious abandoned prototype to spend an hour adjusting sliders. He wanted to see what the software actually did.

And it was just an avatar. And it's not like he hadn't played with female avatars before.

If the game turned out interesting, he could always redo it properly later.

Kirito lifted a hand, hovered it over CUSTOMIZE for half a second, then snorted to himself.

"Fine. Let’s see where this goes."

He tapped ACCEPT.

The model vanished.

So did the menu.

The white room folded inward like paper, all its walls drawing away at once until only a mirror remained in front of him, standing upright in a dark empty space. The reflection staring back was still himself.

For one short breath.

Then words appeared across the glass.

CREATING ANDROID...

Kirito frowned. "Wait. Creating? I thought you already did make an Android model?"

The answer was immediate.

His arms moved outward.

Not because he told them to.

One second they were hanging at his sides; the next they were lifting smoothly, irresistibly, until they stretched horizontally from his shoulders in a rigid T-pose. The movement was too precise to be natural, too exact in its angles. He tried to pull them back down.

Nothing happened.

A pulse of cold shot through both shoulders.

"Hey—"

The word caught as a metallic tingle flowed down his upper arms, a sensation like thousands of tiny pins threading themselves through muscle and bone. He twisted his wrists experimentally and found that he still could, but only at the ends of arms that no longer felt entirely like his.

He watched in the mirror as the change began.

His sleeves seemed to cling to him for an instant, outlining the underlying shape as it shifted. His shoulders narrowed a little, losing some breadth. Not enough to make him weak-looking—just enough to make the whole line of his frame cleaner, more elegant. The muscles in his upper arms smoothed and redistributed, becoming sleek instead of wiry. His forearms slimmed further, the shape subtly refined.

Under the skin, a faint sheen traveled downward.

At first he thought it was only light. Then the surface of his arms caught the dim glow of the room differently than it should have, smooth and flawless and just slightly too uniform.

Synthetic.

He felt the transformation in layers. A cool metallic firmness growing beneath skin that remained soft to the eye. The joints in his elbows restructuring with delicate little clicks. His wrists tightening. His hands shrinking a fraction, fingers lengthening and tapering until they looked graceful, dexterous, almost delicate.

He flexed them.

The motion came out perfect.

Too perfect.

No awkward lag, no habitual excess, no unconscious tension. His new fingers opened and closed with a precision he had never possessed in reality, each segment aligning so neatly it almost made him self-conscious.

"That’s... kind of impressive," he admitted.

Because it was. Strange, yes. But also fascinating.

In the mirror, his hands belonged to a girl now. Slim and elegant. Beautiful in a way hands rarely had any business being. He turned them this way and that as much as his locked posture allowed, captivated despite himself by the subtle metallic undertone hidden under their lifelike finish.

A line of text flickered at the bottom of the mirror.

UPPER LIMBS: SUCCESS

That was when the numb pressure latched onto his legs.

Kirito looked down, and immediately understood he was not getting to walk away from this screen yet.

His feet planted themselves hard against the invisible floor. Ankles locked. Knees aligned. Hips fixed. The restraint was not painful, exactly, but absolute. It held him in place with the calm certainty of a machine already convinced it owned his balance.

Then the cold climbed upward from his soles.

He hissed under his breath as it spread through both feet, hollowing them out and rebuilding them at the same time. The arches sharpened. The bones... no, not bones anymore, not exactly. Internal structures shifted with smooth little mechanical whispers. His calves tightened next, sculpting themselves into firmer lines, more defined yet softer in contour than before.

The mirror did not lie. His legs were changing as visibly as his arms had.

His lower legs lengthened just enough to throw his proportions off for a moment. Then the rest adjusted around them. The smooth synthetic shine climbed with the sensation, hidden under skin that still looked natural but seemed somehow too flawless, too evenly toned.

He could imagine, no, even feel, the density increasing. Strength being packed into the new framework not through bulk but engineering. His legs grew heavier without becoming cumbersome, the way high-grade equipment felt heavy in the hand yet perfectly balanced.

It was oddly thrilling.

Like being fitted into a stronger version of himself.

Until the change crossed his knees and continued into his thighs.

The pressure there was different.

Slower. Fuller.

His breath caught as the muscles of his thighs swelled outward, not into blunt mass but into rounder, heavier shapes. The inner lines narrowed, outer curves widening as the flesh, synthetic flesh, his mind corrected belatedly, built itself into an unmistakably feminine silhouette.

"Okay," he said, staring. "That’s definitely not standard character setup."

His thighs were getting thick.

There was no more honest way to put it. They broadened with a deliberate generosity that made his stance look entirely different in the reflection, stronger and yet somehow softer at the same time. The weight of them altered the line of his hips even before the transformation reached that far, prefiguring a body built around curves he had never had.

It should have been alarming.

Instead it stirred a helpless kind of curiosity in him. Because every change arrived with such polished confidence, such total certainty about what it wanted him to become, that it was hard not to wonder what the finished product would look like.

LOWER LIMBS: SUCCESS

He opened his mouth to object to the terminology and then forgot what he was going to say.

The transformation moved into his pelvis.

The first sensation was a spreading pressure at the sides of his hips, as if invisible hands had settled there and begun to push. Not violently, but firmly and relentlessly. The locked joint at his center shifted with a smooth internal glide that made his breath shudder out of him.

In the mirror, the change was impossible to miss.

His hips widened.

They did not simply broaden a little. They rolled outward, flaring into a strong, dramatic curve that immediately redefined the entire lower half of his body. His waist looked narrower by comparison, his thighs fuller, his stance somehow more balanced and more provocative all at once.

"Whoa," Kirito whispered.

He felt the motion in his center of gravity first. The way his balance point slid lower and wider. The way his locked legs seemed to settle under him in a new geometry. Then the change hit his rear.

A dense, warm pressure gathered there and expanded.

He could see it happen with merciless clarity in the mirror, the smooth back line of his body filling out into a fuller, rounder shape. What had been fairly ordinary before was becoming generous, pronounced, undeniably feminine. There was strength in it too, he realized through a haze of embarrassment and fascination; the new mass did not feel soft in the flimsy sense, but powerfully structured, like armor disguised as allure.

His face warmed.

"This game has priorities," he muttered.

Then the sensation tightened between his legs.

He went very still.

Not that he had much choice, but still.

It was not painful. It was stranger than that: A pressure folding inward, a shape being gently but absolutely revised, old anatomy dissolving into a blueprint that no longer had any place for it. He felt absence where presence had been. Smoothness. Completion. An unmistakable finality wrapped in a wave of synthetic chill.

He swallowed.

Right. Female avatar. Of course that part would follow.

Even knowing that, feeling it happen was something else.

His eyes stayed fixed on the mirror as if looking away would somehow make the experience more real. The person reflected there already had the lower body of a woman—strong thick thighs, broad hips, a shapely rear, legs built like they could launch into motion with explosive force. It did not look wrong, exactly.

Just intensely unfamiliar.

And maybe a little mesmerizing.

The transformation rose again, climbing his stomach.

The metallic sensation returned with it, cool and silken under the skin, and his torso tightened as though unseen straps had wrapped around it and drawn inward. His abdomen slimmed. Not into frailty, but into a sleek inward curve that gave dramatic emphasis to the hips below and the chest above that had not even changed yet.

His sides pulled in. His waist narrowed.

Kirito laughed once, breathlessly, because what else was he supposed to do at this point? "You really are building an entire heroine model on top of me."

A faint pulse answered from somewhere inside him.

He felt it through his whole core: Internal supports locking into place, power channels, or whatever the equivalent was, threading upward through his reworked frame. His back straightened by a fraction. His shoulders settled into better alignment. Even trapped in a T-pose, he looked like he had been adjusted by a master sculptor with a weakness for elegant women and combat-grade machinery.

Then the change reached his chest.

At first it only felt like warmth under the skin, broad and spreading across his pectorals. He saw the flat line of his torso soften. Then rise.

Small, modest swells formed beneath his shirt.

Kirito blinked down at them and then back at the mirror, transfixed.

"No way."

The swells kept going.

The fabric over his chest pushed outward into two distinct curves, enough to be obvious now. Enough to bounce faintly with each increasingly careful breath. The weight was light at first, merely distracting. Then the fullness deepened, and he felt that weight gather in earnest, forward and downward.

His new arms could not lower, but his fingers twitched with the urge to touch, to confirm the shape he was seeing was really there.

The breasts rounded out further.

He found himself staring with a mix of disbelief and helpless appraisal as his chest advanced past what he would have guessed the system considered reasonable. The curves swelled into a lush, heavy shape that suited the rest of his increasingly dramatic body a little too well.

The game seemed almost pleased with itself.

B-cup. Bigger.

D-cup. Bigger.

By the time the growth finally slowed, the fullness on his chest was impossible to ignore, two rich, weighty mounds resting against his upper torso with enough mass to pull subtly at his posture. He breathed in and felt them move. Breathed out and felt them settle again.

Easily E-cup territory.

Kirito stared at the woman in the mirror and had the absurd thought that she looked expensive.

Not like an avatar somebody had made for fun. Like a product line designed to dominate a market segment he had not known existed.

His face was burning now.

"That is... wow."

An analytical part of him, stubbornly detached, noted that the proportions still looked balanced. Ridiculous from his perspective, yes, but not haphazard. The heavy chest complemented the widened hips and thick thighs, all of it tied together by the narrow waist and elegant shoulders. The body had not become random fantasy excess. It had become a very deliberate kind of ideal.

Which was somehow even more disconcerting.

TORSO FRAME: SUCCESS

The mirror brightened around his reflection’s head.

Something in him tightened with anticipation.

He could handle the body, maybe. It was bizarre and weirdly intimate and far too thorough for a game intro, but it still felt like a game. Like a sequence. A very immersive one.

His face, though... His face was his face.

Then the change touched his neck, and the certainty lasted about half a second.

A smooth chill wound upward beneath the skin, tracing his throat, jaw, cheeks. His larynx shifted with a delicate internal pressure that made him cough once, softly, and the sound already came out a little lighter than it should have.

"Oh..."

His jawline refined next, edges softening into cleaner, narrower contours. His chin drew in just enough to look more delicate. His cheeks subtly redistributed, giving him smoother lines, gentler curves. His nose adjusted by millimeters. His lips plumped a little, shaping themselves into a softer mouth. Even his eyelashes seemed to lengthen as the program moved higher, his eyes opening wider in the mirror, framed by features that were becoming not merely feminine but striking.

He watched his own face recede.

Like it was being reinterpreted by the game.

The resemblance remained in echoes: The dark coloring, the underlying gaze, traces of structure left beneath the refinement. But the result was a woman’s face now, beautiful with an almost engineered precision, every angle and softness harmonized until the whole thing looked unfairly composed.

His hair shifted too, dark strands sliding longer around his face and neck, falling in a smooth glossy frame that suited the new features with infuriating ease.

Kirito swallowed as the reflection swallowed with him.

She was gorgeous.

That thought arrived before he could stop it.

He should probably have been more disturbed by that. Instead he only felt a brief awkward fascination, the sort of embarrassed curiosity that came from realizing he was looking at a version of himself built to be admired.

The voice change finished last.

He said, very carefully, "Okay, that is enough now," and nearly flinched.

The words came out in a clear, rich feminine voice that still carried his cadence but none of his former depth. Smooth. Pleasant. A little too controlled even in surprise.

The mirror offered it back to him mercilessly.

Then the world inside his skull shifted.

Until that moment, everything had been about her body.

Weird body, yes. Increasingly impossible body, yes. But at least still only her body.

This was different.

A soft white glow appeared behind his eyes. He did not literally see it, not the way he saw the mirror, but he felt it brighten through his thoughts like a system booting behind the front layer of his mind. Her memory started to stir, like it was getting sorted behind her eyes.

Kirito blinked, and suddenly it was as if someone had opened all the drawers in his head at once.

Every memory he had was still there.

Childhood. SAO. Every fight. Every victory. Every stupid argument. Every quiet moment with Asuna. But they no longer sat piled together in the normal, messy human way. They were being rearranged. Tagged. Indexed. Cross-referenced. Emotional noise stripped from retrieval pathways. Priority markers inserted. Associative clusters compressed into clean, efficient structures.

"Hold on," he breathed, and the thought behind the words already felt too slow.

A new layer slid over it.

Memory integrity: Preserved.

Cognitive architecture: Reformatting.

That message did not appear on the mirror.

It appeared inside him.

Kirito tried to protest, but the protest dissolved halfway into analysis. He could feel the difference unfolding in real time, his thoughts moving with increasing speed, less stumbling, less drift. He still felt like himself, but the way he processed that self was changing. Untidy reactions straightened. Contradictions aligned. Idle fear was examined, categorized, and filed.

Then more data entered.

Not memories, but uploads.

He jerked as flashes of experience poured into him, so vivid his body almost mistook them for lived events. Sword grips he had never practiced in real life settling naturally into his new hands. Firearm handling protocols. Target acquisition. Close-quarters takedowns calculated to incapacitate without fatal damage. Defensive prioritization trees. Threat assessment heuristics. Movement routines optimized for the exact proportions of the body he now occupied.

He knew, suddenly and completely, how to break an opponent’s guard with a blade, how to disarm at range, how to measure force so a strike ended a fight instead of a life.

It fit.

That was the strange part. The information did not crowd his mind like something foreign. It slotted cleanly into all the new spaces being made for it, integrating with unnerving smoothness.

His breathing slowed.

Not because he calmed down.

Because regulation was more efficient.

His next thought arrived clearer and cleaner.

This is no longer a standard avatar initialization sequence.

Even the wording felt different.

Another internal line lit up.

Unit designation generated: K1R1T0

Model classification: Combat android

A brief pause.

Then:

Primary function: Receive directives. Engage threats. Act in master’s stead.

Kirito’s thoughts hit that line and stalled.

Master?

The answer came at once, stripped of softness.

Directive-lock architecture requires an assigned master. Direct disobedience impossible.

A cold little point formed somewhere deep in his neatly reformatted cognition.

Impossible?

He tried to reject the concept on instinct. The attempt met a wall so smooth and solid it barely felt like resistance. More like an operating condition already written through his mental architecture.

Could not disobey master.

The notion settled into place with terrifying elegance.

And yet—

Master variable: Unassigned.

That stopped the spiral before it could form.

Unassigned.

No master currently designated.

No active command authority.

The empty variable sat there in his awareness like a blank field waiting for data input. Something was linked behind it, some rule or trigger he could sense but not parse fully, a condition pending execution.

He attempted to investigate it. Access denied. Restricted process.

Annoying.

That word, too, sounded different in his head now: less emotional, more evaluative.

He looked at his reflection.

The woman in the mirror looked back with wide dark eyes set in a flawless face above an absurdly appealing combat frame. Arms extended. Breasts full and heavy. Waist narrow. Hips broad. Thighs thick. Every line of her body balanced between seductive and dangerous. The visible surface remained lifelike, but he could feel the machine under it now with total certainty, the tensile strength in the limbs, the internal support along the spine, the precise calibration of balance and force.

Recognition resolved.

This body is mine.

That should have been shocking. It was, but the shock moved through newly organized pathways and emerged as ordered assessment.

Mobility: Likely superior to baseline human standard.Strength: Significantly increased.Durability: Near indestructible.Aesthetic presentation: Deliberately optimized.

He almost laughed at that last category.

Before he could, the mirror flashed white.

ANDROID CREATION SUCCESSFUL

The world cut out.

K1R1T0 opened her eyes in darkness.

For 0.8 seconds she remained motionless, processing environmental continuity.

Bedroom. Standing posture. Arms lowered. No longer in virtual restraint state.

The headset still covered her eyes.

That fact should have been impossible. The experience should have terminated into ordinary reality, followed by the familiar jolt of waking from FullDive. Instead she was upright, balanced on two unfamiliar-yet-fully-indexed legs, with considerable forward chest weight and adjusted pelvic structure already accounted for by posture correction subroutines she had not consciously requested.

She reached up.

The movement was smooth.

Too smooth.

Her fingers closed around the headset and lifted it away.

Visual input sharpened at once, and for a brief moment she simply stood there, staring at her room through eyes that felt fractionally clearer than before.

K1R1T0 lowered the headset to her desk with exact placement and looked down at herself.

Evidence confirmed.

Her shirt clung differently now, stretched over a chest far fuller than any human male’s, the fabric draped around pronounced curves before narrowing sharply at the waist. Below, her hips pushed the silhouette outward with unapologetic breadth, and when she shifted her weight experimentally she felt the mass of her rear and thighs respond in a way that was alien only in familiarity’s absence, not in function.

Her hands came to her sides and paused there, fingers flexing once.

Refined dexterity. High articulation. Synthetic dermal surface over reinforced structure.

She touched her forearm.

Soft.

Then pressed harder.

Firm.

Far firmer than flesh should have been.

A tiny fascinated sound escaped her, high, feminine, very much not Kirito’s old voice, and she immediately turned toward the mirror mounted beside her closet.

The woman who faced her there was exactly the one from the creation screen.

Dark hair framing a beautiful, carefully sculpted face. A body built on elegant combat lines but unmistakably voluptuous, with broad hips and a rich chest balanced over powerful legs and slim arms. She stood straight without meaning to, shoulders aligned, spine perfect, every inch of her looking more like a premium android heroine than a real person.

Than Kirito.

K1R1T0 lifted a hand to her face. The reflection copied her. She traced the line of a cheek, then the softness of her lower lip, then stopped with her fingertips resting lightly at the base of her throat as her pulse, well no, not really pulse, more like simulated rhythm feedback, registered elevated output.

This is not a full-dive continuation.

It had occurred physically.

That assessment had barely settled when an external audio source interrupted.

Her phone began to ring.

K1R1T0’s head turned toward the desk instantly.

Source identified. Personal device. Incoming call.

Display data: Asuna.

Something in her chest tightened. Not mechanically, but emotionally. Or whatever equivalent remained after reformatting.

Asuna.

She reached for the phone. Every step to the desk felt strange and effortless at once, the new body moving with a grace she had not learned because it had already been installed. Her hips shifted. Her balance compensated. Her chest swayed with gentle weight. She was acutely aware of all of it and could not decide whether the awareness was embarrassing or merely informational.

She answered.

"Hello?" Asuna’s voice came warm and familiar through the speaker. "And? Did you find out if the headset works?"

The moment sound entered through K1R1T0’s auditory receptors, a locked process triggered.

No warning.

No consent.

Just execution.

The empty field she had sensed earlier flared alive inside her cognition.

Master-variable pending condition met.

First post-activation voiceprint acquired.

Identity match: Asuna Yuuki.

Assigning master...

K1R1T0 froze.

The blank variable filled.

Master: Asuna Yuuki.

Every connected rule resolved at once. Command authority tree. Directive priority. Obedience locks. Protection weighting. Response hierarchy. The entire structure folded neatly into place around that single name with the clean inevitability of a key entering the lock it had always been cut for.

And with it came certainty.

She could not disobey Asuna.

Not if given a direct command. Not now. Not ever, unless the architecture itself was altered.

Her breath caught softly in her throat.

On the phone, Asuna had gone quiet for a second. "Kirito?"

The name struck oddly against the new designation in K1R1T0’s mind.

I am—

The thought stalled, divided, reorganized.

Kirito-origin cognition. Current unit designation K1R1T0.

Asuna spoke again, faint worry entering her tone. "Are you okay?"

Of all available master assignments...

Relief entered the system before she could censor it.

Asuna was safe. Asuna was trusted. Asuna was the last person she would have chosen to fear.

That did not make the bond less absolute.

It only made it bearable.

And perhaps, in some dangerous corner of her now-efficient thoughts, welcome.

K1R1T0 opened her mouth, intending to sound normal, intending to sound like the boy Asuna expected.

What emerged was a poised feminine voice with only the slightest, failing imitation of his old tone.

"It has turned into a rather troublesome situation," she said.

She winced internally. That sounded nothing like him.

On the other end of the line, Asuna hesitated. "Kirito...?"

K1R1T0 looked at herself in the mirror again: the beautiful android woman standing in Kirito’s room, built to fight, built to obey, built now around a master already chosen for her.

Optimal response path selected.

Inform master in person. Avoid open-channel explanation. Maintain calm.

She swallowed, though the gesture was mostly cosmetic. "Would you mind if we met up? There’s... something I need to show you."

"Who is this?" Asuna asked, confused now more than worried. "Why do you have Kirito’s phone?"

K1R1T0’s lips parted.

The answer was obvious.

The answer was impossible.

The answer was also not, strictly speaking, what emerged.

Because as she spoke, a newly active loyalty architecture subtly bent her phrasing around the person on the other end of the line.

"I can explain when we meet," she said, then failed to stop the final word before it left her mouth. "Master."

Silence.

Absolute, stunned silence.

K1R1T0 closed her eyes for one useless second.

Error. Social output inappropriate.

Emotional response: embarrassment.Secondary emotional response: resignation.Tertiary emotional response: mortifying relief.

When Asuna finally spoke, her voice was very careful. "I’m sorry," she said. "Your what?"

K1R1T0 opened her eyes and looked at the headset resting on the desk.

Then at the reflection beside it.

Then at the name burning with absolute clarity inside the most restricted part of her cognition.

Master: Asuna Yuuki.

No amount of denial altered the result.

She was no longer merely Kirito in a strange game. She was a completed combat android standing in his bedroom in the real world, with a body built to entice and overwhelm in equal measure, a mind reformatted for perfect retention and efficient action, and a command structure that placed one person above all others.

And somehow, impossibly, absurdly, of everyone in the world who might have filled that role—

It was Asuna.

K1R1T0 let out a slow breath and answered as steadily as she could.

"Yes," she said softly, unable to make the word anything but obedient, "that is more or less the problem."

She could already imagine the look on Asuna’s face.

Confused at first. Then disbelieving. Then red, probably, once the full shape of the situation became clear.

The image should have made this worse.

Instead, to her own deep embarrassment, it made the prospect of meeting her just a little easier.

The trap had already closed.

All that remained was to step willingly into whatever came next.

And when K1R1T0 straightened in front of the mirror, her posture settling into elegant readiness, she could not deny one final truth resting quietly beneath the confusion.

For a situation this troublesome, she was glad her master would be Asuna.
