ハイパーディープ (Build 0.7.0)

Hello again everyone.

It's a MILESTONE UPDATE this time round. It might not be too exciting for most of you who are already playing the game, but it represents a key point in the development of HyperDeep that I'm very proud of:

HyperDeep has received its first localization and now supports Japanese!

Japan is a spiritual home for all erotic video games and so adding a Japanese localization is a sort of pilgrimage that I knew I would have to make at some point in the game's development. There is also concrete reasoning behind it:

I actually speak some Japanese and therefore this is the only localization that I would be able to produce myself

The Patreon attracts users from all around the world, but critically almost nobody from Japan.

A game like this should be perfect for a Japanese audience, but Japan has a strong domestic market for erotic video games and a full suite of domestic distribution platforms, etc. Also, Japanese people generally cannot read English very well.

In light of this, in addition to the Japanese localization I will also be setting up distribution in Japan through DLsite (hentai manga/anime/game distribution platform) and Ci-en (Patreon-like platform connected to DLsite). This does however bring up one important consideration that I'll get into below...

Onii-chan is watching

As you are probably aware, Japan has strict censorship laws that apply to all "obscene" content. This is the reason that Japanese live action pornography is pixelated, but the same law also applies to fictional representations: anime, manga, and most relevant to us: video games.

If I want to distribute HyperDeep on Japanese platforms I am legally required to make a censored "Japanese version" of the game.

To clarify: THIS ONLY APPLIES TO THE VERSION OF THE GAME DOWNLOADED FROM JAPANESE STORES, THE PATREON BUILD IS NOT CENSORED

For things like visual novels or other 2D games this is pretty trivial, but for a 3D game like HyperDeep (especially one with free camera movement) it actually presents a pretty interesting technical challenge. The law requires that the censor remains in place at all times and cannot be bypassed, meaning that I have to cover all eventualities: the player zooms in really close to the penis, the player clips the camera inside the penis, etc.

Overcoming this challenge took a surprising amount of effort but it was also a lot of fun and I'm quite proud of the result.

New hair color parameters

Just a couple of new customization parameters this time round, allowing more control over HD-chan's hair color:

Hair color midpoint - How far along the hair strands the midpoint of the gradient between root and tip colors lies

Hair color contrast - How sharp the gradient is

"Use interior color" - Whether hair strand inner faces should use the "interior color" or the same color as the rest of the strand

Manga postprocessing effect

Just a bit of fun, and I suppose a fitting homage for our first Japanese release. I threw together a manga effect shader on a whim and really liked how it turned out, so I thought I might as well add it as an option. Activate it from the scene tab of the sidebar menu.

Note: Due to changes between this version and the last, choosing "continue" on first run may cause strange behavior. You should start a new game the first time you play a new build (you can use "continue" normally from then on).
