Discussing Lynn Loheide’s BMXNet 2024 class—or Lynn as a person—comes with a bit of bias on my part, given our long history. I’ve had the privilege of knowing Lynn for over a decade, first as a friend, then as a member of the Sacred team, and now as a peer.
I’m incredibly proud of the person they’ve become.
Lynn is a passionate piercer, an exceptional suspension facilitator, and, as I recently discovered, an outstanding public speaker.
With that in mind, and fully acknowledging my biases, Lynn’s class, Transmodified: Considerations for Piercing Medically Transitioning Clients, was objectively one of the highlights of the event for Julia and me this year, and from talking with other folks who attended it, it seems we're not the only ones.
While I’m not a piercer and some of the material didn’t directly apply to me, the class gave me a deeper understanding of the medical changes that transitioning friends experience. Greater understanding naturally leads to greater empathy.
For piercers or anyone who works with the body, this class is transformative. It will change the way you approach clients undergoing hormonal changes, including CIS clients on HRT for various reasons. Understanding how these changes affect existing piercings and future plans is crucial, and Lynn’s insights are invaluable.
I really hope to see Lynn offer this at other conferences (APP, are you listening?) and if I'm remembering correctly, their course notes are available on lynnloheide.com - and I absolutely hope to see more offerings from Lynn in the years to come.
