Ryoichi Maeda, known as Keroppy, is a journalist and culture reporter who has covered the body modification community for over three decades. His publications, including The Piercing Bible (unrelated to Elayne Angel's book of the same name), the Japanese edition of ModCon: The Secret World of Extreme Body Modification, Scar Factory, and his work with BURST magazine, have played a crucial role in popularizing body modification in Japan.
I first met Ryoichi in May 1999 at the inaugural ModCon event in Toronto, Ontario. I was delighted to see him again at this year's BMXNet Conference in Berlin, where he participated both as a guest and a lecturer. He was the only attendee from the first ModCon event present for the lecture, although other ModCon alumni, including Steve Haworth (MC2, MC3) and Ryan Oulette (MC4), were also in attendance.
