I wrote this song earlier this week as a little cameo on an upcoming Soopurkul album (as a thank you for him writing a song for Cozy last year). I was waiting for the album to come out before sharing it, but he said it was cool so here ya go :)
Soop's album is about lullabies and other quiet sleepy songs and while he was talking about the concept the track name "You Can't Be Sad When You're Asleep" popped into my head. At the time, my wife was having a few very hard days at work and she was coming home exhausted and sad every day. Definitely hits very close to home for me. These are the notes I wrote:
watching a loved one sleep, knowing they are having a tough time and hoping that the rest gives them a brief break. wanting to protect them from things that you know they need to ultimately face
This song is heavily inspired by Phil Broikos's song "It's Gonna to Be Alright" which I absolutely adore. It really shows that you don't need things to be complex to be powerful.
Hope you enjoy it. When Soop releases the album, I'll be releasing this on the Orphans album as well just so there's a place in my discography for it. <3
