Three more designs to share today, sorry for the lower post frequency, it took quite a while to settle on designs for Pam, Marnie and Lewis that I was satisfied with!

A big part of the past couple of weeks was spent on code stuff which isn't much to talk about, but the main things that might be interesting to folks are:

  • I'm exploring the possibility of moving my mods off of Sprites in Detail over to Scale Up Unofficial, which should make further sprite creation easier and may possibly improve various technical areas like faster loading from no longer needing a giant content.json file for sprites, and trading two mod dependencies for a single one. (Won't need Poohcore anymore with Scale Up Unofficial)

  • I learned what I'm going to need to do to make my mods properly compatible with Valley Girls, which is a hefty amount of extra code writing, but this opens up the possibility of adding new content with it in the future... That's gonna be pretty far away, though, so I'm just writing this to let people know it's at least POSSIBLE now, after I'm able to finish more of my current projects.

Now, for the characters!

Pam's been out of work for a long time in the story, so her outfit's pretty blatant about how she might be getting all that beer money. She's one of the shortest characters in the game, just like Penny, so I had to give her some shortstack proportions as well. I also tried to make her hair curlier because my Penny has those giant bun curls, but I dunno if the resemblance really comes across there since their styles are so different.

Marnie's original outfit looks kind of split like it can't decide if it wants to be a shawl over a dress or a dress over a blouse, so I decided to just go with an overly-exposed cloak! With a few gold accessories to imply her secret relationship has some nice benefits for her, I wondered if I should try to make it even more elaborate and lean into some kind of forest fairy/elf look but I also thought maybe that'd be overdoing it for a humble rancher lady?

...And then I threw all notion of "overdoing it" out the window with Mayor Lewis. This alone took me days to figure out something I liked, I kept wracking my brain over how to make a frumpy grandpa character into a cute girl while still keeping the grandpa traits... The suspenders by themselves? Made her look like a circus strongman. The newsboy hat? Really didn't feel like something a younger mayor would wear. And maybe it's just me but it's really hard to make a bright green dress shirt look fashionable?

So... screw it! Change everything! More color range! Bratty face! Confident pose! Different hat, different shirt, and the suspenders are kept but reduced to straps to still have that connection of "Wait, this is Lewis...?" Lewis also happens to be one of the shorter men of the valley so I thought she'd make a cute pair with Marnie as a short girl!

By the way, I'm planning to add a patch condition to make her panties disappear when the purple shorts quest is active...

So that does it for now, I think I sorely need to make some more progress on the Vol. 1 redraw after Lewis took up so much time. Until next time!
