In a much earlier draft, after Felix finished his game with Craig, Lisa, and Sophie, he and Jess were going to use Sophie's sandbox game engine to role-play through some of Fiona's "memories."
One of those memories was going to be about Felix's ex-girlfriend, changed into Fiona's ex-boyfriend. However, the simulating Fiona's memories in VR idea didn't pan out because Jess spent the night with Hugo instead, then in the morning Felix, Jess, and Hugo would be busy getting ready, and I felt like I would be delaying Fiona's meeting with Lisa even further by throwing anther game story into the mix.
However, as I got to rewriting Fiona and Hugo's conversation as they were eating breakfast, an opportunity arose for Fiona to verbally tell a condensed version of the story. This than morphed into Hugo introducing Felix to a VR feature called a Mindscape.
So now, instead of a half-dozen strips of Hugo and Fiona sitting at a diner table while they plan for Fiona's meeting with Lisa; they can now do a bunch of that planning while in VR while Fiona tells the story about her 'ex-boyfriend'.
