Thinking that she's now accessed the central core, Violet Van Vyle's mission nears completion, but her virtual problems are not yet over. She's attacked by what she believes are automated drones, but in reality they're all a creation of the augmented reality headset she's wearing. It's a pity because if this were the actual mission she was supposed to be doing, she'd be killing it right now. Still, the gathered diners in the Timpani Mall food court are enjoying her performance immensely. They even seem to be overlooking the fact that her acrobatics have ruined a couple of lunches.
I'm always concerned when I do one of these technology based stories that the concept is going to be hard to follow. The explanation for what's going on happens early in the story, after which there are few clues as to why this woman is jumping around in a mall in her all together. I had similar concerns with Police Investigation, where unless you read the beginning, you would be confused about why all this weird stuff is happening. I think I'm mostly banking on newcomers either reading the whole thing to get up to speed or just enjoying the enf aspect and not being too concerned about the context. But these are the things that keep me up nights sometimes.
