Hey all,
As promised last week, on the menu for this blogpost a status update on the advancement of implementation. As a reminder, I was back then pondering a somewhat ambitious task of implementing a new gameplay mechanic that involves accessing another character's whole computer, and seek out content in this nested UI.
Well as it turns out, I've made some decent progress and even produced a decently working prototype. The framework I've laid out so far neatly allows it without too much of a hassle, though some extra precaution will be required during testing. I've also noticed some very minor hits on performance on some workflows which I have not quite made sense of yet but it's mild enough to not be a priority for now. The implementation also involved me cleaning up the existing framework and making the current, main game UI more generic and robust so that's a plus!
For a more detailed sneak peek, a new app will be included in the game for which the player will be granted access through some newly made acquaintances that will also provide an array of various tools required to snoop around and break some securities loose.
In short, you will have to gather information on a character, then you'll be able to attempt to remotely connect to their computer from within the new app through various means. Once you're "in", you'll be free to look around their apps, snoop in their messages & private notes and of course, peep in their private picture gallery.
Gaining access in the first place will not always be straightforward though, requiring you to make your own preliminary investigation and possible use a few tricks you'll have up your sleeve.
Here's how the prototype looks so far:
It features the main UI of the remotely accessed device, a mock terminal displaying commands & an action log and a toolbar with additional information and the different tools you will have access too.
I hope this kind of "hacking" gameplay sound exciting to you guys!
Here's an updated progress chart:
Now that I'm through the main part of implementation, I should have a clearer view on the remaining workload and should be able to provide a more precise release date next week. We are indeed overflowing from the initial estimates but all of this new gameplay stuff was unplanned, and I want it to be properly cooked for the release.
I sincerely hope this sound appealing to you guys, don't hesitate to give feedback!
As always, thank you so much for the support, and stay tuned for more updates and juicy teasers. Have a great one!
