Good evening folks, hope you're doing well. I have an update on the scrubbing process last week for DayZ. For those who didn't catch the update, this is the process of going through the available footage to find highlights.
I started off with about 164 livestreams (.mp4 files really).
55 of those were tagged as "Namalsk" and have been moved to one side for another day. I'd like to keep the Namalsk highlights as their own thing.
4 were not done and I simply ran out of time, mostly because their notes were a bit vague and difficult to parse.
7 are what I call "unnested and unscrubbed". Meaning I'll need to go through them manually in audio form. But it's a process that can be done steadily whilst doing housework/dog walking, etc.
85 have been successfully "nested" into the Premiere project.
And another 10+ were tagged as "private do not archive". Meaning those were mostly offline social sessions with the guys that are not to be swept into the whole.
The final result turned out to be roughly 175-195 nested "sequences" or individual jokes/clips. It gets a little hazy when filed down to this level of specificity.
But your average bullshittery consists of about 40 (ish) clips, that's great. It means there's plenty to choose from.
I'd like to pick DayZ bullshittery as the obvious next project choice.
So the plan this week is to cut together, probably a 15 minute long series of highlights. The reason being is that I've discovered several larger "03" sequences. Involving running jokes, escalating trolling, or other complex sequences that are roughly 5-7 minutes each. Meaning if I gunned for 10 minutes only they'd consume most of the run time. For example:
A sequence in which "player run radios" are introduced and then gradually used to troll everyone on the server.
A sequence in which Cyanide finds a megaphone and proceeds to make survival increasingly harder for the rest of his clan mates. In ever more creative ways.
A sequence in which I discover cannibalism and "eating my viewers" and go to increasingly unhinged lengths to do so.
A sequence in which Bavon created an in game cult called "The Church of Bavon". And heads up a large number of cultists.
So I've picked one of them, highlighted in blue. And I'm building the rest of the clips around it. Knowing what clips I want bookmarking the start and the end. Then going from there. Filling in the blanks and playing it back until it looks right.
By the end of this week I expect I'll have a pretty complete looking cut. Meaning the production estimates are likely:
This week = main cut
1 week per 5 minutes animation = 3 weeks
1.5 weeks quality assurance and rework.
Expected delivery - Between 1st and 3rd of July.
The editing begins. Hopefully I can make something good.
