Development of Venus Derby continues steadily! On this devlog, I'll be going thru the Visual Novel System and the Editor used to creating it.
The Editor
Like I had mentioned in the project announcement, the game's going to have a Visual Novel (VN from now on) parts in the gameplay loop. But as programming can be hard (it sure was when making the Editor hahaha...) I've decided to make a node-based, visual editor for creating VNs for the game, right within the game itself without needing any extra tools. That also means you'll be able to create VN segments and create your own Scenarios too!
Without further ado, lets have a look at how the Visual Novel Editor looks.
The Editor's designed to be plug and play with ease to use in mind with tools like trying out the VN you just made right within the editor itself. No promises yet, but the ability to mod in VN segments and Scenarios may be available in the demo. Though there'll surely be some rough edges.
The Viewer
The viewer UI is still in WIP and as you can see, quite empty for now, I'll be making a followup section about it in a future devlog. But for now, the base systems needed to present VNs is there and working!
Some Other Features
Characters now can be set up to blink! Just set up an "Eyes Closed" state in the character editor and the game will handle the rest!
Characters now "breathe" as in moving slightly up and down, the speed and the scale of the movement depends on how "burdened" the character is, making what your character is going thru at that moment more dynamic.
