Things are progressing as they should. Got some more stuff to show this week!
But, unlike previous posts, I can't really pinpoint a "highlight" of this week. Things varied from rendering optimizations to new mechanics to some silly side quests no one asked for but we got either way.
Some info about the state of development and where Venus Derby currently is
Game is "technically" close to being demo-ready! Even though that sounds exciting (it is!) the game wouldn't really be a "game" if it had nothing inside it. I've been working on mechanics, code and gameplay so far. And I'm happy to say I got most of the systems down, just got some peripheral systems and mechanics left. And of course the occasional bug and polish here and there. On the topic of progress, I've gotten to work on the lore too! (More about Lore in another post...)The game lacking "content" is a temporary thing though. Venus Derby started development with pretty much... Nothing at all. Just an idea, a sketch, and a game I wish existed. Its endearing when I look back to see just how much was done since the project announcement! I'd like to thank each of you again for your support!(Here's the original project announcement all the way back in August. Time flies eh... https://www.patreon.com/posts/136039227)
With all that in mind, the game is, mechanics wise, 80-90% Complete. I can't give estimates on how long the content side will take, but I'm in talks with some artists and writers. I'll be pivoting to writing for the game after the game feels done code wise. With that out of the way, lets see what happened this week...
Weight System
I've been working on adding the weight system into the game this week. The system to render weight stages were already there, but the weight stages weren't connected to anything else meaningfully. But that isn't the case anymore! Voresen Prey Exchange, Actions in random events whilst playing and races all affect the weight stat now. Not eating anyone in a turn will result in weight loss. Whilst playing, you'll have a couple ways you can tackle the weight of your trainee.
Try to keep the weight in the green area, where no buffs or debuffs are applied. Or try eating a lot, and pack a punch in clashes or go the other way around and become a speed demon. The choice is yours.
