Cronos: The New Dawn - HDR Optimized Settings

DESCRIPTION

The game is NOT using/applying Xbox, Playstation or PC HDR Calibration app settings.

Unfortunately the game by default has terrible, elevated black levels when in-game but thankfully it can be mitigated with in-game settings. In this regard, the game offers many in-game HDR controls including a proper Peak HDR Luminance slider (in nits value), but strangely the value you put there is not exactly reflected in the max measured nits in-game so it needs to be adjusted

If you have an LG OLED and:

> you're using Dynamic Tone Mapping or Dynamic Contrast:

  • Set HDR Max Luminance slider to: 5.000 (max; closest to 4.000 nits)

> you're using HGIG:

  • Set HDR Max Luminance slider to: 900 (actual 800 nits) or 1.200 (for G2/C4; actual 1.000 nits) or 2.000 (for G3/G4/C5; actual 1.500 nits) or 4.000 (for G5; actual 2.400 nits)

If you don't have an LG OLED and:

> you don't have an HGIG option:

  • Set HDR Max Luminance slider to: 1.200 (actual 1.000 nits)

> you're using HGIG:

  • Set HDR Max Luminance slider to the corresponding real Peak HDR Luminance of your TV in "nits" and then add more in a similar way of the value above

In all cases set:

  • HDR Mid Luminance slider: 3.00 (this will fix black levels but will also make the picture darker so it's recommended to be used in a dark room. If it's too dark for you try 4.00)

  • HDR Min Luminance slider: -20 (Default)

  • HDR Brightness slider: 2.50 (Default)

  • HDR UI Brightness slider: 200 (to avoid image retention on OLEDs)

  • HDR UI Contrast slider: 1.50 (Default)

BONUS:

  • On Consoles: Disable Chromatic Aberration to improve picture clarity

  • On PC:
    - Use my UET Mod to improve performance, lower latency and have better clarity at the same time, all with no visual loss ;)

Enjoy ;)
