Spring 2024 developer update and roadmap
DESCRIPTION

Been a while since we've done one of these. The PlayTracker team spent 2023 creating our 2.0 update: a complete redesign and back-end revamp of PlayTracker. We've added numerous features, frantically fixed bugs, released a desktop app, and even did a little advertising.

But now, as things settle into a more "normal" groove, it's time to start nailing down our plans for the future and share what we've been working on.

Starting with something that's been a long time coming...

Mobile app for Android and iOS

You guys have phones, right? Yes, our web app is perfectly functional on mobile, and as some savvy users have noticed it can be added to your home screen as a progressive web app, but for a lot of people nothing beats a good old normal app on a regular old app store. Expect to see this soon, once we jump through the usual app store hoops.

More platform integrations

One of the most common requests we get from the community are requests to support additional platforms. We've been quite hesitant on this because of the complexity and maintenance overhead it introduces. However, we've been working on the three most often requested platforms: Ubisoft Connect, Epic Games Store, and RetroAchievements. Coming soon, pending any unexpected technical hurdles.

More enhanced game tracking

As big service games continue to be a big part of many gamers' libraries, so too will we continue to add enhanced game tracking for more games where it is technically possible. Specifically in the works are Guild Wars 2, Destiny 2, League of Legends, World of Warcraft, and Fortnite.

Spring cleaning

A lot of stuff that people ask for isn't some big major feature, but rather a small quality of life improvement. Some minor feature that makes so much sense you start to wonder how it  isn't already there in the first place, like being able to see who completed your challenge, or which of your friends own a game. And let's not forget adding a bunch of new profile decorations to unlock! We've got a whole laundry list of them, so this Spring we will take some time to clean up and implement as many as possible.

Lens full release

The Gordian Knot of Insight: Lens. Originally announced years ago, this beast that ballooned in feature scope, becoming an unstoppable monster that will eventually devour all of gaming. This power feature allows users to create an extremely specific audience segment according to filters like game ownership, playtime, achievement completion, and more. Once created, an audience segment can be explored via graphs and trending lists, but also applied to any game in order to see all kinds of data on how the two intersect.

If you're one of our highest tier Patrons: first of all thank you so much, but second of all you may have already been playing around with this feature as one of our select beta testers. Soon, this feature will launch fully and upon doing so become its own product outside of the confines of Patreon, targeting professionals who use PlayTracker for market research. Existing Legendary tier Patrons will get/retain access as long as they continue their pledge.

And if these five key points just were not enough to satisfy your insatiable lust for knowledge of the future, here is a list of some other things we are planning for the future of PlayTracker:

more stats and graphs on profile

enhanced support for even more games

improved library filters

better search

single-game profile cards

more Social features

user-defined communities/groups

user review system

That's all we have to share for now. If you've got any questions, you can reach us on like 50 different platforms. Seriously, have you seen the size of our footer lately?

Thank you again for your love and support, and for sticking with PlayTracker all these years.

P.S. Send us your best custom cards.
