Owner estimation model update
Differences in culture mean different regions can have vastly different rates of people who decide to join PlayTracker or make their profile public on a given platform, and those are the two samples that we use for our owner estimates.
This means that some regions are inherently underrepresented while others are overrepresented and any game with an audience which is unevenly popular on a global scale drifts our estimate away from reality.
After over a year of work on this issue, we are finally releasing an updated model for calculating owner estimates. This new model artificially evens out regional distribution according to data we've collected working with partners.
The new model is already applied to Steam games and if you visit PlayTracker Insight now, you'll see the new estimates. The new values are also available via our API, so they should updated on partner sites soon. PlayStation and Xbox estimates will follow soon.
Our estimates for Steam games remain open to all for free and available via partners like SteamDB.
We have also visually refreshed the Geography graph available to Premium subscribers to be more helpful and concise.
That's it from us today. Thank you for being with us, and please stay tuned for more exciting improvements soon!
