Hello Patrons!
This is a ritual chamber I created for use for a boss battle in our campaign. Located in the heart of a ritual complex on top of an old volcano, this chamber is a perilously situated place for a battle.
The entrance from the south leads out towards the mountainside temple. The interior of the massive cavern is dome-shaped, allowing for the sublimation of light from below! I recently learned volcanic regalith and magmatic flows are great at absorbing light, making the interiors of calderas very dark indeed.
For our campaign, the containment held the body of a corrupted god, himself whom was siphoning souls from across the region. The areas around the containment chamber provide great vantage points to set up for a tough fight! I allowed the boss to remain within the chamber while they summoned the tortured spirits to fight for them.
Of course, breaking into the containment requires activating all the seals... so make sure your adventurers have a plan before they charge in without a plan!
Round 1: The corrupted god awakens, and begins to summon dark spirits to do their bidding.
Round 2: Once the boss starts using Legendary Actions to continue summoning spirits, it becomes aware that soon the field will become saturated by spirits. Now is the time to move forward and stop them from overwhelming the group.
Round 3: The seals should ideally be released by now, exposing the corrupted god to damage and crowd control. The ideal adventuring party should now whittle away the other spirits while working on the boss.
Round 4: Do or die! If the adventurers haven't done a significant amount of damage by now, then it will become too close to call! From here on out, have the corrupted god (or any other boss monster you are using) move around the battlefield, forcing the players to navigate the perilous platforms to keep up.
We hope you enjoy and are inspired!
