DESCRIPTION
Hey y’all! Recently I’ve been working on making Sobek a new ref after seeing how different his last ref was 😂 it’s crazy to see the difference a few months can make! I also included his last ref at the end but overall I love his new ref like a billion times more!
- Firstly I took away his weird proportions in his last ref, he had a really large upper chest that didn’t match with his almost shrunken abdomen. Secondly I made his colors a bit more muddy as I wanted to give him an almost Earthy tone as the main theme of his coloring. I also made his feet and hands have the same black gradient as the last ref only his feet were black I’m color, his feet which were a mix between kangaroo and canine feet have now been made to look purely like canine feet! Which means he does have paw pads! 😂 his scars stayed in roughly the same places however I connected a few of the scars so that they can tell a better story of what caused them. Additionally I brought back his crocodile scales on his arms and legs! He used to have them back in 2022 and I thought it would make him look rougher which I ended up liking! I also kept the one tusk that is curlier than the other cause I thought it looked funny and gave some more character. I also gave some color and proper definition to some …other areas.
- With his clothes I didn’t make too many changes on the design itself as you can’t beat perfection, the main difference being that I made the clothes a lot baggier to act like actual clothing, compared to the almost skintight attire he had previously (which mainly had to due with my lack of understanding clothes well). I also made his pants a proper poofy pair instead of the weird tuck into bandages he had previously that made him look like he had no legs. I also changed up the colors of the belt, gloves, bandages, and satchel as to fit with the earth tone theme! And finally I made his horns a darker grey color to show some age in them, almost as this ref is a milestone compared to my other ones. I also gave him an alternate outfit! That one was based off of a gift my buddy Tarn made for me where he put him in an adorable outfit for a lovely hug! Because of that I decided to make it into an actual outfit! I stole the bandana from cypress in the picture cuz why not, and gave him some thigh windows in the pants! Overall this design makes him feel very monk-ish, and while I prefer his OG design still this is easily another fun one I’ll love to keep drawing!
