Thank you for being so patient since the last update. I should've accounted for more headspace during the draft, but underestimated how much text I needed to carry this comic through. You'll notice that I've shifted the first 2 panels down a little more.
And FINALLY I can share Pridestar's origin story. It's something that's been brewing for the longest time but never found the right angle or format to present it. I think a great benefit of 4-panel comics is that it allows us to dive into very specific moments without needing too much exposition or setup.
A friend had introduced me to Steven Universe back in 2015 when I first visited California. The show had been very formative in terms of content and vibe for Meatier Showers. Pridestar (like the Crystal Gems) is, for the most part, an undocumented migrant / alien from another universe who's crash landed in Calfurnia seeking the Amurrican Dream (or its promise).
There's a song that really resonates or underscores the mood Pridestar carries with him, but it's too melancholic for the series. I've always made it a point to "find the funny" in for Meatier Showers not lean into too much melodrama.
In any case, it's been a huge weight off my chest being able to share with you all Pridestar's "coming out" story. Will talk more next month! Stay swole and take care.
