Pridestar's origin story started out as an early attempt at a long-format comic back in 2024. While there were earlier explorations of Pridestar's powers and reveal, what you see below is the most definitive version of him being an alien.
This story arc struggled to find its place within the context of a growth comic - feeling forced and contrived. While most of the pages were never published, it did help visualize certain aspects or iconographies I wanted to keep. What this page suffered from most was that it heavily relied on exposition to tell Pridestar's origin, and veered too much into a sob story (of how cold and dark space was and how all the other stars in the universe were brighter...)
For this month's comic, the original draft started with Snares giving Pridestar CPR in panel 1. Instead, I wanted to bring back Pridestar's iconography from the long format test, and begin the comic with a tight shot of his tattooed eye - a symbol of his "original form" without ever giving that away (for now). In panel 2, Pridestar already be awake midway Snares' "kiss" - something to visually signify their future together.
As of this writing, I have a week more to go before my internship ends. I'll need some time to recalibrate to a self-employment routine. 2 weeks later I'll be off to Aurawra for a much needed holiday. By August, I'll be entering Year 3 of university. I'm expecting a fair amount of lifestyle changes and will need some time figuring out the path forward.
