The WornDown Children Origins: Diego
AKA: The fly episode
Here's a one pager for your spring break vacation, try to make it last.
With this comic I love many of the long lived TWDC mysteries like; does Diego have a sister? Or, are there Fly people in this world or are flies like little people? But more importantly, I get to draw Diego on his Gi again after a long time.
Long story short, Diego talks to Lil about his “journey” after ending 10th on a local tournament. Which actually means he's getting better!
His injuries here are almost the same as in an old piece which I guess suggest that both that one and this comic happens the same day as I don't think he gets beaten this badly every time.
Don't worry though, he'll be fine… in a couple of weeks.
Here are the other 3 versions of the comic, No solo las dos versiones en español que creo de hecho me gustan más. Más que nada por que Lil dice Waos. But also the version that includes dialogue from the tv that make it explicit that Diego and his sister are indeed watching Karate kid.
In fact, at some point I was really close to including a shot of the tv with the movie on it. I was going to draw either Daniel or Miyagi as a Crane, because of the kick of course, but I decided not to do it, not only because, if I'm honest, I’ve never been great with resemblance but I also felt it was too much.
Originally this was going to be a two pager but I realized that this thing could be done shorter which is the opposite of my usual method of starting a 12 pages comic and making it over 60.
So I’m either getting better or worse, but hey!, there’s movement!
