A GQ cover carried real weight in Hollywood. For a young male actor, it often marked the moment when the industry stopped seeing him as a promising newcomer and started treating him like a lasting celebrity. The photographs and expensive clothes were only part of the appeal. The real message came from the cover itself. It told audiences, studios, fashion brands, and other actors that this person had become important enough to watch.

Many rising stars waited years for that invitation. Some used it to leave behind teenage roles, while others used it to show that they could carry themselves like serious leading men. A strong GQ feature could bring fashion contracts, major interviews, better scripts, and a new level of respect from people who had previously seen an actor as young or inexperienced.

At nineteen, Jack had already won awards, written bestselling books, and carried major films. Even so, appearing on the cover would push his public image into another stage.

Jack stared at the message for several seconds before turning the phone toward Richard.

Jack read the message again, and a proud smile appeared on his face. “Would you look at that?” He said as he showed his dad the email.

Richard took the phone, read the invitation, and looked impressed. His son was taking another step toward success. “A GQ cover at nineteen,” He said. “That’s a big achievement.”

Jack nodded as he looked at the screen again. “It really is. I knew they followed my work, but I didn’t expect a cover this soon.”

Richard handed the phone back to him. “They’ve been watching your career. Your movies are all massive hits so far, your books are successful, and your name keeps getting bigger.”

Jack read through the details about the interview and fashion shoot. The smile stayed on his face.

“They want an eight-page feature,” he said. “That’s more than a normal cover interview.”

“It means they want to present you as someone people should pay attention to,” Richard replied. “This will help your image as an actor and as a public figure.”

Jack looked at the three dates listed in the email. “September eighth, ninth, or tenth.”

Richard took out his phone and checked the production schedule. “The eighth could be difficult if filming runs late. The ninth is free, and the tenth is also locked for shoot. So, you're gonna have a very tight and exhausting schedule.”

"I can work with that. No biggie," Jack replied.

"You sure?" Richard asked, looking a bit concerned.

Jack has filming scheduled all week; then he'll do that GQ thing on the day he was supposed to take a break, and the next day the shoot will continue. It'd be very exhausting for him, and Richard doesn't want him to black out on the set or get sick.

He continued, "We can move the shoot back by another day."

Jack shook his head. "No, don't do that. We're tight on budget and everyone's time is precious. I don't want the shoot to stall because of me, and I'll be alright. I promise."

Richard sighed. "Okay. By the way, send the reply through your management team. They’ll confirm the terms, image approval, interview subjects, transportation, and how the pictures can be used.”

“This is why you handle the business side," Jack replied.

“This is why you pay experienced people,” Richard replied as he stood from the bench. “You shouldn’t agree to an eight-page feature without knowing whether they plan to put you in a bathtub filled with watches.”

Jack stood beside him and slipped the phone into his pocket. “Huh! They do things like that?” He raised an eyebrow.

“I’ve seen fashion magazines do questionable things to respectable men.”

They began walking toward the hotel instead of running while chatting about the absurd things that happen in the modeling world and how different that side of the world is compared to the acting side.

...

[Late Noon] [Jack’s Hotel Room]

Jack returned to his hotel room after the morning jog, took another quick shower, and put his robe back on. He placed his phone on the bed, closed the curtains halfway, and decided that he would follow his dad's advice for once.

He climbed beneath the blanket, expecting to fall asleep, but his body still refused to cooperate. After lying there for several minutes, he grabbed his phone and opened a game instead.

For the next few hours, Jack remained stretched across the bed while moving between racing games, puzzle games, and a strategy game. He noticed a few texts from Emma, Dakota and Willa, but for the moment, he decided to ignore them.

'I really need some male friends,' He thought.

Whenever his thoughts moved toward work, he forced his attention back toward the game.

By noon, he had completed several levels, lost three races, built a small digital city, and spent far too much time trying to defeat a boss that kept destroying his character with the same attack.

Jack stared at the defeat screen before dropping his phone onto the pillow beside him.

“Fucking pay-to-win shits,” he said as he sat up and stretched his arms above his head.

His stomach reminded him that breakfast had happened several hours earlier. Jack reached for the room-service menu and looked through the lunch section before calling the hotel service desk.

“Hello, I’d like to order lunch to my room,” Jack said while sitting against the headboard. “I’ll have two grilled turkey sandwiches, French fries, chicken soup, a fruit plate, and two bottles of orange juice.”

The woman confirmed the order and told him that the food would arrive soon. Jack thanked her, ended the call, and checked the time.

It was close to Haley’s usual lunch break.

He opened her contact and started a video call. The phone rang for several seconds before Haley appeared on the screen with a bright smile.

“Hey, handsome,” Haley said as she picked up the call and moved toward a quieter corner of the boutique office.

“Hey, sexy. Oh, I love what you did with your hair,” Jack said as he noticed the loose curls falling around her shoulders. "You look really pretty."

“Oh, thank you." Haley touched one of the curls and smiled wider.

Jack settled back against the headboard. “How’s your day been so far?”

Haley’s smile faded into a tired expression as she leaned against the office desk. “It’s been busy and kind of annoying.”

Jack’s face softened with concern. “What happened?”

Haley glanced toward the closed office door before lowering her voice. “I had a classic Karen situation this morning. A woman came in looking for a dress for some charity event, and she kept asking me to bring her more options.”

Jack listened quietly while Haley began pacing through the small office.

“I brought her at least twelve dresses,” She continued. “She hated every color, every fabric, and every style. Then she found one she liked, tried it on, and said it made her look old.”

Jack frowned as he shifted the phone closer. “Did you suggest another size or design?”

“I tried everything,” She said. “I offered different cuts, unique colors, and some accessories that might help. She kept acting like I had designed every dress in the store just to upset her.”

He stayed quiet and let her continue.

“Then she asked for my manager because I told her we couldn’t give her a seventy percent discount,” Haley said, rubbing one hand across her forehead.

"Seventy percent discount?" He looked stunned for a moment. "You gotta be kidding me."

She continued, “Yeah. Can you believe it? She said she deserved it because she had been shopping there for years. We checked her account, and she had only bought one scarf almost two years ago.”

Jack shook his head slowly. “That sounds exhausting to deal with during a busy morning.”

“It was,” Haley said as she sat down in the office chair. “My manager came over and explained the exact same policy. The woman still got angry, raised her voice, and said she would never shop there again.”

Jack gave her a sympathetic look. “You handled it without losing your temper, right?”

“I stayed calm the entire time,” Haley said with a proud nod. “I wanted to tell her exactly what I thought, but I kept smiling and speaking politely. My manager said I handled the situation really well.”

Jack smiled at her. “I’m proud of you for staying professional when she made everything difficult.”

Haley’s expression softened. “Thank you. I’m proud of myself too, because the old me probably would’ve said something that got me fired.”

Jack nodded as he watched her through the screen. “You’ve worked hard to get where you are, and one difficult customer isn’t worth risking that.”

“Exactly,” Haley said. “Then, after she finally left, someone broke the coffee machine.”

Jack’s eyebrows lifted. “How did that happen?”

“Nobody knows,” Haley replied. “It started making a strange sound, leaked water across the counter, and stopped working. We’ve been trying to survive without coffee since ten this morning.”

Jack leaned back against the pillows while Haley pushed a curl away from her face.

“So, other than the Karen problem and the lack of caffeine, the day has been going better than it sounds,” Haley said. “We’ve had good sales, and my boss liked the display I finished yesterday.”

“That’s good,” Jack replied. “Did the new display bring more people toward that section?”

“It did,” She said with growing excitement. “Two customers bought complete outfits from it this morning, and another woman asked me to help style her for an anniversary dinner.”

He smiled warmly. “That's awesome.”

Haley nodded while resting one elbow on the desk. “I think my boss is starting to trust me with bigger clients. She doesn’t check every little decision anymore, and she asked for my opinion during a staff meeting. Well, enough about my long and annoying morning. How’s your day going?”

He looked around the quiet hotel room before answering. “I’ve been doing almost nothing.”

Haley narrowed her eyes slightly. “You’re actually taking a day off?”

“I’m trying,” Jack said. “I woke up at five, had breakfast, went jogging with my dad, came back here, played games for hours, and ordered lunch.”

She looked surprised. “You didn’t write anything?”

“I finished the final Fantastic Beasts chapter last night, so I’m forcing myself to stay away from work today,” Jack replied. “My dad gave me a long talk about slowing down before I burn myself out.”

“He’s right,” Haley said as she leaned closer to the screen. “You act like resting is something you have to earn after finishing everything.”

Jack gave a small nod. “He said almost the same thing.”

“That’s because we’re both watching you work yourself into the ground,” Haley replied. “You film all day, write at night, and then wonder why your brain feels tired.”

“I know,” Jack said quietly. “I’m going to try taking more real breaks. By the way, something good happened during the jog.”

Haley’s interest sharpened. “What happened?”

“GQ invited me to be the cover star for their September issue.”

Haley’s eyes widened as she sat up straight. “You got a GQ cover?”

Jack nodded, unable to hide his proud smile. “They want an eight-page fashion feature and a long interview.”

Haley stared at him for another second before breaking into a huge smile. “Jack, that’s amazing. A GQ cover is a really big deal.”

“I know,” Jack said. “I didn’t expect them to ask this early.”

"I'm gonna brag about you even more everywhere," She said.

They talked for another ten minutes...

Haley looked at her wristwatch. “My lunch break is almost over, and I need to eat and get back downstairs.”

"Okay. My food should arrive soon, so I should let you get back to work.”

They both kissed goodbye.

A moment later, Jack got a message from Haley. He opened it, and it was Haley's pic. Well, topless, to be specific, with a little writing at the bottom: If you're planning on fapping, you better use my picture instead of watching porn. Call me if you need a live service. I can spare five minutes.

Jack laughed a little. "Damn, Haley. I think I'll take you up on that offer, but at night."
