Here's the first look at my latest questionable acquisition: NEC MultiSpeed PC-16-01. Named such for its ability to switch clock speeds from 4.77MHz to 9.54MHz via dip switch (I suppose). Overclocking in 1986! It is 16-bit, XT-class and appears to be the first such laptop to be battery-powered. Featuring NEC's own V30 CPU, a pin-compatible clone of the Intel 8086 (allegedly). No provision for a hard drive, but it does have two 3.5" floppy drives. Both of which contain disks! Not sure what's on them because I prefer to avoid pushing buttons and such without the camera running.
I wanted to start on it last week, but the local microbiota had other plans. Now I sound like my sinuses are filled with concrete. At least I got a few days of the cool ultra-deep batman voice that sometimes accompanies upper respiratory invasions. Still not something I prefer to immortalize. Luckily that is getting over with now, so I will be rolling on this machine over the coming week. Feels absolutely amazing to be back out there, doing anything!
