DESCRIPTION

I have a very recent sketchpage to share this week. Mostly otters this time, but not just the typical river otters I’m always fond of drawing. There’s some giant otter sketches in there too! (I mean Pteronura brasiliensis, not just otters that happen to be big)

I first saw giant otters at the Atlanta zoo and I remember thinking how weird they looked compared to their North American counterparts. By weird, I mean they didn’t immediately read as “cute” the way a lot of their rudderbutt kin do. The Tupi call them water jaguars, and the Spanish call them river wolves. Pretty cool! They’ve grown on me over time, and I do really love the challenge of taking species like this and kind of translating them into an anthro design that finds some unique appeal in their character. I see something that’s sorta gruff and sorta homely. We’ll see where it goes...

And there’s the rough layout for a pawjob scene. I won’t keep you waiting very long for that one!
