We are officially winter pale, mildly feral from too many marina days, and absolutely done with grey skies.
The good news?
A 10-day weather window has finally opened up in the Ionian - and we are dropping the lines.
There are only so many pancakes you can eat.
So much online school you can supervise.
Editing you can sit though.
So many flooded streets you can dodge.
A limit to Greek pastries you can “sample for cultural research.”
We didn’t choose boat life to sit still. And after months of battened hatches, 60-knot blows and decks constantly rinsed by rain, the call of open water is loud.
A Little Greek Context 🇬🇷
It’s just been Carnival season here in Greece - a colourful few weeks of parades, costumes and celebration leading up to Lent.
Today is Clean Monday - the official start of Lent in the Greek Orthodox calendar. Traditionally, families head outdoors (weather permitting!) to fly kites, symbolising spiritual elevation and a “clean” beginning. Tables fill with lagana (unleavened flatbread), olives, taramasalata and seafood - marking a shift into a simpler, more reflective season.
A day about renewal.
Fresh starts.
Letting go.
And if there’s anything we’re quitting this season… it’s looking back.
Lines off.
Sails up.
