Tjock has been updated again, and this one adds a few things that turned out to be both useful and surprisingly fun.
First, I fixed a bug that could cause the plugin not to behave as intended in some situations.
On top of that, Tjock now also includes the dynamic bypass function that I have started using in my newer plugins.
About Tjock
Tjock is a creative low-end tool that shapes the bass by blending a filtered signal in parallel with the dry one. The goal is to add warmth, thickness, or a deeper sense of low end without paying too high a price in perceived loudness.
In Linear Phase mode, Tjock stays relatively transparent. In Minimum Phase mode, it becomes much more colored, but in a very nice, analog-like way.

The new Dynamic Bypass lets you set a threshold where the plugin is bypassed when the signal goes below it, and activated again when the signal goes above it.
I also added a Below volume control, which lets you adjust the level of the dry signal when the input goes below the threshold.
The Polarity switch is where things get a bit more creative. In Minimum Phase mode, especially with more poles on the filter, flipping the polarity introduces quite a lot of phase shift, which can change the whole low end in a really interesting way. It can sound very warm and very analog, but it also comes with a cost in perceived loudness, so it is worth keeping an eye on that. The loudness controls are there for a reason, so use them to make sure you are not giving up more loudness than you actually want to.
In Linear Phase mode, polarity flip is much less exciting. Since the phase is not being shifted, it mostly behaves like cancellation, which in practice means you are closer to building a low shelf that can reduce bass, or remove it almost completely if pushed far enough. So that part is much more useful in Minimum Phase mode.
This update has made Tjock a much more fun tool for me personally, and I have been reaching for it a lot more often lately, especially while mixing. It can give things a completely different feel, and it is very good at bringing in warmth in a way I often find more pleasing than just using EQ.
