Hi everyone! ^w^

Hope you're all doing well! Here is your log of the dev.

Cat Animation Progress

The cat animation is still chugging along! We're past the early keyframe chaos and into the much more tedious but satisfying stage of refining the movement and locking down timings. I will be updating the Catrobatics Scratchback sketchpack with new loops soon, so keep an eye on that if you want to see how it's shaping up! :3

Dusting off Kincaid's Ship

To kick off this Monday I took a break from animating and shifted gears to something new... always feels good to take a breather and come back to tedious frame crafting fresh. I didn't have anything lined up or planned, so I decided to improvise! I dug up some very early sketches of Kincaid's ship and started reworking them! It's been a while since we touched the ship design and it was fun to revisit it with fresh eyes. With Haven slowly taking shape in the background, bunny has been drafting up a prototype for traveling between planets and Haven with the ship. It is still very jank and not much more than an ugly debug tool that lets you jump between connected worlds, but it does feel nice to connect the different places we have been sketching!

And... Mod Support (Maybe)?!

On the code side, Bunny has been experimenting with LDTK which is a free to use level editor originally made for Dead Cells and now open source! Compared to the GameMaker room Editor it is very easy to start up and get blocking out levels, connecting them into the world and seeing them live ingame.

The idea is to use it for greyboxing level ideas without having to rebuild the whole game every time. And like I mentioned it hot reloads any changes while the game is running, so you can see the world taking shape around the player as you play!

Anyway that got us thinking.. if the game can already load external level data from LDTK... maaaybe... there could be some sort of modding support down the line?

I want to be clear that this is not a tease or a promise! We are just very excited at the sudden possibility!

There's still a lot to figure out. GameMaker can load external art and data files, so basically it should be possible to load community made levels. The decoration layer would work pretty differently though, since ldtk only supports tileset decorations and not the free floating sprite assets we use in GameMaker. But that might be a small tradeoff for even a limited form of mod support.

This is very much a spare time investigation by the bun and not a build priority, but the prospect of playing community made levels is super exciting and people have asked for that from day one!

We'll keep you posted if it goes anywhere!

Until next time!Cookie & Bunny
