When reading the main character's narration, what does your internal voice sound like? Here’s an excerpt from Book 5 for reference:
I woke up to the faint taste of copper and saké in my mouth. The explanation for both came in the form of several splinters that had wedged themselves into my tongue. I spat them out and ignored the fresh bruises across my body as I stood up and shook off what remained of my barrel.
It had traveled quite a ways and was much farther down the cliff than I had expected. I was in the midst of a valley that was as long as the eye could see, and that itself was strange: this was the Clanfields after all, where large expanses like this simply didn’t exist. Stranger still, even plains had trees, while this one had nothing save for snow piled high and piling still.
