I've always loved songs that juxtapose happy production with morbid lyrics, or visa versa. This is a demo from the Skeletons writing period that fits into the former category. On first listen it sweet and uplifting, hopeful and soaring... but when you tune into the lyrics they are psychotic, speaking romantically about sabotaging someone's life and stealing their freedom to prevent them from leaving.
"I'm not aliveWhen you're not homeI'll eat your wingsI'll sink your boatI'll sink your boatI watched you spinLeaking oilFrom all the holesI put in your hullI put in your hullSo you can't leave me hereSo you can't leave me hereSo you can't leave me hereSo you can't leave me here"
The upbeat and beautiful production makes the track even more twisted and malevolent to me. Like someone acting furious telling you they are going to murder you versus someone saying the same thing while they smile and laugh. One is scary, the other is fucking terrifying.
