Oh hey look, it's the third quarter. This was the most drawn out part of Octransfur, where I sort of fell into one of my classic doldrums of productivity. I have an explanation, though I don't suppose it's much of an excuse. It was a double combination of prepping the old burnt-out house to be sold and prepping the Christmas cards, so it was probably at least half self-inflicted. But hey, we made it here in the end, right? As always, links to timelapses and reflections follow.
Day 17 - Play - The rhyme was probably the part of this that went through the most revisions. Luckily I had the help of a bigger snep to get it juuuust right. By this point we were way past Halloween, but hey that's no reason not to dress up anyhow. Both of us decided to dress up as something cute, and the big size candy bars were totally worth any consequence~
Day 18 - Style - This is another trope I've been meaning to get to more, and I have some sketches secreted away in a similar vein which I'll finish up later~ The 'chu mood was strong again by this point, and luckily both of us had favored 'chu forms to turn into. A bonus trope here that I used elsewhere in Octransfur: the revealing reflection. It's a favorite detail of mine~
Day 19 - Party - First things first, yes this is a Spongebob reference. It seemed like a perfect fit for the idea that popped into mind for this image (though I should be careful saying "pop" when I'm inflated). This is one of many TF things I enjoy but don't do often, simply because I can't help but love almost everything that's even tangentially related to TF. Oh, and shine. Gotta love the shine. One little extra side note, the timelapse has an inexplicably large number of views on it and I have no idea why. No other video I've made even comes close (except maybe Day 5). Just a bit baffled by that.
Day 20 - Viral - I love callbacks, and I always long to make series. So I indulged yet again and in the process might have accidentally doomed everyone to becoming Pokemon. Whoops. Sorry-not-sorry~ The mirror tool was both my friend and enemy here, since it both saved time and limited the composition a bit. I am very happy with the sign idea, though. That was a happy stroke of inspiration, and I'm not afraid to admit it's another part of TF that really tickles me.
Day 21 - Tape - On the subject of reusing ideas, this time I turned into the camera. Gosh, that makes two times out of three this month that someone turned into a camera in one of my pics (even more if you count Rotom Dex as a camera). But anyhow, this is one of the rare "simple" pictures this month, with a nice self-contained theme and an easy abstract background. Don't expect that trend to continue.
Day 22 - Disguise - Ah, PMD my beloved, when will your next game release? I'll just have to do it myself, won't I? Anyhow, this one is a bit of an odd concept, but I was lucky that we (the commissioner and I) came up with a neat way to show it in a visually straightforward way. Something that helps with this type of picture is being able to do just enough world-building to make things interesting but also knowing when to stop yourself from daydreaming so you can start drawing. Maybe one day I'll figure out this skill, haha.
Day 23 - Ring - I'll admit it, I was kind of working around the customer here. I try not to do TFs that are canon-breaking, even if there is no one set canon between my pictures, so I settled on the idea of something going wrong in an amusing way. And so we return to the customer service trope, yet again. Drawing human faces is one of my weak points (plus I'm more interested in other faces), so naturally, the top half was going to be the TF'd half. I should do ring TF more often, it's good, simple, clean fun~
Day 24 - Thief - And after the last picture's simple abstract background, I just couldn't help myself and leaned heavily into depicting a Mediterranean countryside to bomb through. This is an idea that would have gone well with Speed, but by this point I knew motivation was a weak point for me, so I just leaned heavily into ideas that appealed to me at that exact moment. And at that point, it was drawing cars and turning into mischievous foxes. It helps that Lupin III has a truly stylish ride~ I went to great lengths to get the little Fiat 500 exactly right, apart from the badge, of course. I also made sure to choose a font that'd be right at home as a DVD's subtitle text.
