Hey all,
Another week, another blogspot and I believe time has now come to shine some light onto the brand new upcoming app and the gameplay elements that will accompany it.
This week was full on coding and implementation, and I've made significant progress towards a working framework so I wanted to share with you guys what I've been cooking!
The story so far has been teasing that both the main character and Clem share a hobby; fantasy tabletop RP games i.e. DnD-like systems. It's fun and a good defining characteristic for a nerdy character with whom a lot of us can relate but I wanted to explore that trope a bit further and implement some actual RP in the game as a storytelling device. I think it can add entertaining new gameplay elements but also serve an actual purpose for progressing character arcs and relationships, as these games are played socially and involve a fair amount of dialogue.
The idea is, you guessed it, to implement an app that will allow the players to join actual DnD-like table games during the story, role play a character and play short campaign arcs while chatting with their in-game acquaintances and possible love interests.
For now I've got the game view pretty much figured out with the business logic and data model also implemented, but there's still work to do notably on front-end, UI design but also implementing the other views of the app (home screen, joining a lobby, creating a character, etc.)
Here's a teaser of what it will most likely look like (this is a WIP build, nothing is final!) with a preview of some assets I've been working on:
Regarding the gameplay, you guys will have to wait for more details but I can already tell that I'm leaning towards a very simplified version of a DnD-like system (no point in implementing a heavy system with a whole bunch of convoluted rules!) but it will still involve character creation with classes and stats, and rolling dice for ability checks. The session will progress through a chat screen where the player will be able to make choices- much similar to the messaging app- while enjoying the live reactions of their fellow players and DM through their camera feed!
Now here are the progress charts:
I still keep a buffer for the artwork as I will have some finishing touches and late additions to make, notably on the assets for the new app. Coding did progress quite a bit but there's still some work to be done, though it's still hard to estimate just quite how much yet (a lot of it will involve extensive testing and debugging of the new app). Then will come the scripting, which shouldn't be too bothersome.
I really hope you guys are excited for what's coming!
Thank you all for the support, have a great week, and stay tuned for more updates as I will most likely come bearing news and possible release dates in the next blogpost!
