INCIDENTS
96-110: Poppy Creek Interpretive Trail
A visitor, G.R. from Maybell, CO, was bitten by a rattlesnake that was sunning itself on the Poppy Creek Interpretive Trail. G.R. was successfully evacuated to the closest park medical station, and antivenom was administered. G.R. was then driven to the state hospital in Grand Junction to receive continued care.
96-111: “Big Beetle” Fallen
A visitor, L.G. from Asheville, NC, crossed the 10-foot perimeter fence erected around the remnants of the fallen named “Big Beetle”, and began climbing the exoskeleton in an apparent attempt to reach the top. At a height of approximately 15 feet, L.G. fell from “Big Beetle” and began convulsing on the ground. L.G. was tended to by guests and a docent who happened to be nearby until medical rangers were able to bring L.G. to a park medical station. By the time L.G. was in the medical station, his seizure had concluded and he continually repeated the following statement:
“The river came the river went, blood and bugs and anger and hate all flowing flowing flowing all fighting fighting fighting FIGHTING. The river was here, its crimson flow breaking over this place, bringing violence and hate and anger and blood, god almighty so much BLOOD. It’s gone now but it will be back, its flow is not far away, not far away at all, it will be back I have seen it, I HAVE SEEN IT.”
After hearing the preceding statement upwards of fifty times, finding non-pharmacological methods of calming ineffective, park medical staff diagnosed L.G. with Acute Spontaneous Interfacing Disorder, and administered a standard 7mg dose of lorazepam to L.G., who was then transferred into the custody of Federal Anomalous Incident Agents.
96-112: “The General” Fallen
A visitor, F.R. from Winter Haven, Florida, attempted to climb the stone wall that surrounds “The General” but was pulled down by other visitors and a ranger who was present. F.R., who had previously been diagnosed with Acute Spontaneous Interfacing Disorder after climbing the wall and making contact with “The General” a year prior, then became violent with those attempting to restrain her. She stated that “The General” had called her back to the grassland, stating that it was recruiting soldiers for the war to come, and it needed her. F.R. was then tranquilized after she attempted to bite the attending ranger’s ear off. She was taken back to a park medical facility, kept under sedation, and diagnosed with Chronic Spontaneous Interfaceing Disorder. F.R. was transferred into the custody of local law enforcement under the supervision of Federal Anomalous Incident Agents and permanently banned from the park.
96-113: Main Visitor Station
A small child, T.E. from Denver, CO, was caught attempting to steal a sticker and stuffed “Ultra-Spider” toy from the gift shop. T.E. was reprimanded by both visitor center staff and his thoroughly embarrassed parents, and made to pay for what he took. No further disciplinary action was taken at the time.
96-114: Tallyhoo Trailhead Bathrooms
An unknown guest left an exceptionally messy “upper decker” in the tank of toilet number 3 in the men’s restroom. Three members of the janitorial staff were forced to postpone their standard duties and clean said toilet, resulting in a cumulative 2 hours and 32 minutes of paid overtime.
96-115: Main Visitor Station
Amidst celebrations for Ranger R.E.’s 5th year of service to the park, a bottle of beer was spilled on the “The Iron Warrior” diorama, resulting in minor damage to the scene. The local artist who originally built the diorama has already been scheduled to return and fix the diorama.
