⚓ Why Vliho Bay keeps drawing us back… ⚓
DESCRIPTION

After seven years cruising the Ionian, we’ve spent time in countless bays, harbours and marinas, but Vliho Bay remains one of those places we always seem to return to.

At first glance, it’s easy to see why. The bay is exceptionally well protected, offers plenty of anchoring room, has easy access to Nydri, and sits right in the heart of some of the best cruising grounds in Greece.

But for us, what really makes Vliho special is that it’s one of the few places where you can enjoy life at anchor while still having access to almost everything you might need.

Need provisions? No problem.

Need a laundrette, chandlery, fuel, marina facilities or somewhere to eat? They’re all within easy reach.

Need a boat part in a hurry because something has inevitably broken five minutes before departure? Yep… we’ve been there too. 😆

One of the biggest advantages of Vliho is the network of marine professionals available locally. Over the years we’ve learned that whilst many jobs can be tackled ourselves, sometimes there’s simply no substitute for experience, specialist knowledge and having the right tools on hand.

Whenever we need help, our first call is usually Matt at 38 North Yacht Services.

Not only is Matt a good friend, but he’s also one of the most knowledgeable and reliable marine engineers we’ve met in the area. Better still, he operates via high-speed RIB, meaning he can often come directly to your boat whether you’re anchored in Vliho, elsewhere around Lefkada, or even further afield in the Ionian.

From servicing and repairs to troubleshooting breakdowns, it’s often possible to solve problems without the hassle and expense of arranging a lift-out.

For cruisers visiting the area, having that kind of support nearby can make all the difference between a stressful delay and getting back underway quickly.

So whilst Vliho may not be the prettiest anchorage in the Ionian, it might just be one of the most practical - and sometimes that’s exactly what makes it the perfect bolt-hole for liveaboards.

Have you spent time in Vliho? We’d love to hear your thoughts below! ⚓🇬🇷
